Sending data to another phone, paying without contact (and even without a credit card in a store thanks to your smartphone), or even passing through the subway's turnstile with a single gesture: today, all these gestures that have become commonplace have been made possible thanks to NFC technology.
NFC (Near Field Communication) is now available on most smartphones on the market, and it could well revolutionize the interactivity of your storefront. Explanations in the following lines.
The way NFC works is very simple: all that is needed is for two devices (smartphone, payment terminal, credit card) to be equipped with a chip containing this technology so that they can exchange information with each other. NFC can also be paired with a Bluetooth enabled device, which will speed up the process.
Today, NFC is everywhere: in almost every credit card on the market (it's the technology responsible for contactless payment), or in public transport (Navigo passes or Oyster cards for example).
It is even possible to create and place NFC tags in your surroundings in order to trigger a specific feature in your smartphone with a single gesture, such as activating the airplane mode when you go to bed (the NFC tag will then be placed on your bedside table).
In short, the possibilities of NFC seem limitless and depend only on the imagination of its users. But then, how do we leverage this technology in the dynamic and connected storefront?
Thanks to NFC, it will be possible to send a lot of useful information to the smartphone of your (future) customer through your shop window. A real estate agency will thus be able to create several NFC tags and place them in different places of the window, which will allow the passer-by to :
- take control of the screen to enter their search criteria
- retrieve the description of the property for sale or for rent
- be redirected to the agency's Facebook or Instagram page
- retrieve the agency's virtual business card
- or simply ask to be contacted again
Even if you are absent, it will still be possible to distribute information to your potential customers. That is to say, additional opportunities to rent or sell your real estate!
