Romain Cartier is a real estate expert featured on the "Recherche Appartement ou Maison" show broadcast on French TV channel M6. Every week, he gives his advice to the VITRINEMEDIA community on how to perfect its role as real estate agents and optimize its sales.
Working independently or joining an agency's team is a choice that every real estate agent must make. But there are no good or bad choices, everything is a question of personality, work style, and desire. In both cases, the real estate agents' missions are the same and so is their way of working with selling and buying clients. On the other hand, how working time is organized and how the relationship with fellow real estate agents is managed differs on several points.
Working for yourself allows a flexibility that is not always allowed in fixed premises. It is, therefore, easier to organize your schedule at your convenience and to manage the prospecting part yourself as it seems appropriate to you. On the other hand, one of the drawbacks is not having an agency window where to display your customers' properties for sale as well as the properties previously sold. Good visibility is, therefore, more difficult to achieve, unless you are very present and highly active on social networks and digital platforms.
Conversely, working in a real estate agency gives you the opportunity to enjoy structure and a working atmosphere on a daily basis. This makes it easier to share with your real estate agent colleagues but also to welcome your clients in offices designed for that purpose, where you can proceed to the drafting of administrative documents.
Beyond your daily assignments, the real estate agency also has the advantage of providing you with tools that would be more difficult to benefit from if you were working alone: prospecting tools, customer records, specialized training, etc. This framework also allows you to benefit from other "internal" advantages such as career development perspectives and recognition, which will only be beneficial for practicing your profession in optimal conditions.
Finally, working for a real estate agency will allow you to benefit from the reputation of the network to which the agency belongs or the reputation of the agency itself. You will not be the only one working to promote your company's expertise, and this will make it easier to gain the trust of your customers who will be familiar with your agency's know-how when working with you.
